PORTUMNA ACTING CLASSES

For over 10 years FILM VENTURE have run one of Ireland’s leading Camera Acting courses. We are a partnership comprised of Director Graham Cantwell & Actress Amy-Joyce Hastings, now based in Portumna! We are delighted to announce we are launching our first local acting course for teens beginning March 2019.

If you have already pre-registered your teen, you will be sent an email invitation with booking details (on a first come, first served basis). Class numbers will be limited and classes will take place in Portumna town. The first term will be a 6 week term, starting March with a weekly 2-hour workshop.

Details of the classes are as follows:

Acting Classes, Spring Term: A 6 week course of 2 hour workshops for teenagers aged 13-18 yrs.

Location: Portumna Town Hall Theatre

Time: 6.30pm – 8.30pm each Wednesday

Dates: Wednesday evenings –  March 13th, 20th, 27th & April 3rd, 10th, 17th

Course Fee: €99

Payments Options: By online bank transfer (preferred), cash or cheque. Please email with your preferred method and for details.

You may pay either in full in advance or pay in two installments: a €40 deposit with the €59 balance due 2 weeks before the classes begin.

ADULT ACTING CLASSES – PORTUMNA

We are currently planning a brand new series of Acting for Camera classes for interested Adults, based in Portumna. We have had several enquiries regarding the adults group and will be launching these classes as soon as we have a full group who have pre-registered interest. Suitable for beginners and all levels.

  • That you are interested in taking part in the adult (18s and over) group. All ages welcome, there is no upper limit!

ABOUT US

Graham Cantwell is an IFTA nominated, multi-award winning director with two decades of experience in the film industry. His films have won awards at many top tier festivals at home and abroad, including The Galway Film Fleadh, the Audi Dublin International Film Festival, the Foyle Film Festival, the Santa Fe Film Festival, the Iris Prize Festival and many more. His debut feature film Anton was nominated for three Irish Film and Television Academy Awards. The Callback Queen, his second feature, received two IFTA nominations, and screened in cinemas nationally.

Graham has taught directing and acting at many educational institutions in Ireland including: The Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College Dublin, The Irish Film Academy, Filmbase, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, The Attic Studio, The Gaiety School of Acting and Griffith College Dublin. He has also given masterclasses at several film festivals throughout Ireland, Europe and the United States.

Amy-Joyce Hastings is an award winning actress who has starred in dozens of productions, both on stage and screen. Upon graduating Trinity College Dublin’s Samuel Beckett Centre with a Degree in Acting Studies, she moved to Sydney, Australia and later to London where she worked in both film and theatre. She is now based in her native Galway. In the course of her career she has played opposite actors such as Julie Christie, Iain Glen and Henry Cavill, and worked with internationally acclaimed directors including Pat O’Connor, Agnieskja Holland, and Alison Macleane.

Amy-Joyce recently won the Underground Cinema Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Oonagh in the multi-award winning, IFTA nominated Lily. She plays Iseult in Sanctuary, Len Collin’s groundbreaking, critically acclaimed film, which won awards around the world including Best Irish Feature Film of 2017 from the Dublin Film Critics Circle. She starred as the title character in The Callback Queen, a romantic comedy set in London’s film industry which premiered in the U.S. at George R. R. Martin’s Jean Cocteau Cinema. Further film & television credits include Showtime’s Emmy winning series The Tudors, Little Deaths and TV3’s The Guards.
