AUDITION
TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP
Wednesday
8th & Thursday 9th September 2010
6pm - 9pm
The Lab, Foley
Street
Dublin
With the amount of
films and TV shows auditioning in Dublin at the moment its the perfect
time to hone your audition technique.
By
far the most
important skill to develop as an
actor looking to work
in film and television is the ability to audition well. Too often
actors find themselves let down in an audition environment because they
feel nervous or uncomfortable in front of the camera. The good news is
that there are a number of
steps and techniques that you can follow to prepare for an audition
that will help you to perform with confidence and authority.
 |
In
this 6
hour workshop spread over two evenings director Graham Cantwell will take
you
through
the various stages of the audition process for film &
television
from both the actor's and casting director's perspectives.
With
an emphasis on practical work you will be given scenes to prepare in
advance as well as doing cold reads at the workshop. Your scenes will
be filmed and expert feedback given.
The key points covered include:
• Preparing
yourself for audition
• Preparing
a scene for audition
• Making
brave choices
• Standing
out from the crowd |
•
The 10 minutes before the
audition
• Making
a good first impression
• Good
audition technique
• Cold
reading
• Rescuing
an audition
• Working
with an unresponsive partner
• Figuring
out what a director is looking for
• Taking
direction and making adjustments
• Being
prepared in order to be flexible
• The
power of conversation
• Active
listening

second guessing and post mortems

The
course will appeal
to actors at all levels of the profession,
whether you are new to auditioning or are just looking to refine your
existing
audition skills.
Drawing on his experience at all levels in the
industry
and his
dealings with hundreds of actors in the course of his career, Graham
has designed the Audition Technique Workshop to communicate effectively
and concisely everything an actor will need to know to deliver an
effective and successful audition in front of the camera.

Having worked on film with Graham for the last 10 years, it's
refreshing to know that there is still a lot for me to learn about the
craft of auditioning. Graham's approach is wonderful and gentle, and
what he brings to the table is his passion for the person involved, his
unerring patience and his diligence to the craft. I know now that I can
go to any audition with great confidence as a person and an actor, and
be who I need to be, and do what I need to do, on the day. For that, I
am more than grateful.

I just wanted to say thanks so much for the workshop last week.
It was a great help, both for audition technique and for all the
networking advice. I think I probably learned more in those two
nights than a whole year at the Gaiety!
Libby Russell
I left Uni acting without enough truth and I
have worked hard to
reprogramme to find what works for me to give truthful performances.
Now I feel I have to add another layer - the tutoring from you really
rang true and it was so valuable to see the footage back and discuss
it.

Just a quick note to say thank you very much for your expertise and
input yesterday evening at the workshop. It was very enriching and I
will put in practice as much as I can from your teaching during my
future
auditions.

Having studied acting for two years in London and been to a variety of
courses and workshops, I can confidently say that Film Venture
London’s was one of the best. In terms of Acting for Camera they
were perfect. Amy and Graham are the perfect combination of a talented
actress with years of industry experience and an award-winning director
at the top of his game. They understand both the insecurities and
aspirations of the actors they tutor and the expectations of the
casting directors and agents they themselves have had first hand
experience with. They not only give you excellent advice and insider
tips but also know how to put you at your ease to get the best from
you.

Dear Graham, I want to thank you for a very interesting and
instructive evening workshop yesterday. We all learned a great deal.
